Carl Dow gave his granddaughter Baobao a ride on his motorized wheelchair back on June 2, 2025.

July 15, 2025, Ottawa — 92 years ago, on July 15, 1933, Carl Dow entered this world at the Civic Hospital here in Ottawa. Roughly 87 years later, his grand-daughter Baobao, made her own entrance at the same hospital.

The BumblePuppy Press (as am I, his first-born son) is proud and happy to celebrate that anniversary, and to recall that Carl’s first novel, Black Grass, is the reason the BumblePuppy Press exists. He hadn’t found a publisher, so I decided I would turn a manuscript that kept me up reading until dawn into an actual book.

Carl still lives in Ottawa, and is still writing. He tells me his next novel should be ready for an editor’s eye soon, and he is also talking about a sequel to Black Grass.

Keep writing, Dad, and keep giving your grand-daughter rides in your chair!

Finally, a reminder. His books are available online and direct from the publisher.

Image shows covers of The Old Man's Last Sauna, and Black Grass, both by Carl Dow.

Always looking forward,
